Terms of Reference

 

1.    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Responsible for setting the business strategy for the Transportation Sector in West Africa, grow all transportation business service offerings by pro-actively and re-actively, selling and promoting the product ranges on offer, to relevant industry sectors in West Africa, with the prime objectives of meeting the divisional budget by obtaining new clients and growing the portfolio of existing clients.

 

2.    REPORTING STRUCTURE

The Business Development Manager will directly report to the Regional Manager and Transportation Business Development Africa Manager.

 

3.    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform all duties in accordance with the Company Statement of Integrity.
  • Compliance to all relevant Company West Africa operational quality policies and procedures.
  • Identify, engage and prospect market opportunities across Manufacturers and OEM’s in demand of Company Services and Solutions.
  • Familiarization with Transportation Sector service offerings processes and practices.
  • Present technological solutions and services confidently to Executives.
  • Work Closely with Global Technical Teams on all technology related aspects of the solution by coordinating bids, solution development and alignment. Employ a “sell with” approach.
  • Lead the QA process from conception through to deal approval.
  • Conduct documented sales planning as per KPI’s targets set by Transportation Business Manager.
  • Promoting Transportation testing services to potential customers.
  • Assist in development of strategy for Company’s successful entry into the Transportation Services marketplace
  • Attend industry conferences to locate business opportunities and enhance Company brand awareness within the Transportation Testing Services industry. Identifying most effective channels of new service communication (trade shows, promotional literature, etc.)
  • Work with Operations, Legal, Finance and Senior Management to develop formal quotations for existing and new clients.
  • Facilitate an acquisition of complimentary organizations including, identification, negotiation, internal presentation to gain Management approval, deal closure, assistance with initial integration.
  • Focus on the needs of customers with specific drive to sign a Contract with relevant service level agreements.
  • Ensure targets for proposals, client’s visits, sales of new clients and sales revenue for the Transportation solutions are achieved.
  • Follow up on all proposals in accordance with divisional Sales policies and procedures
  • Becoming familiar and conversant with Sales Prospecting as per the Company policies and procedures.
  • Monthly Sales Report.
  • Promote the image, capability and integrity of Company to our clients.
  • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the Company management system.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
  • Actives sales and marketing in the defined areas in promoting Company services.

 

4.    SPECIFIC AUTHORITIES

  • Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or enter hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
  • Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
  • Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are defined or when nonconformity is defined.

 

5.    QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION

  • Material science related Bachelors degree, Master or Postgraduate Degree preferred (or substantial equivalent business experience).

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the related field is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of Management experience.
  • Previous business development experience is required.

 

COMPETENCES

  • Attention to detail.
  • Organizational and record – keeping skills
  • Sales skill
  • Previous business development experience is required.
  • Can manage conflicting situations with senior management of business partners in a professional way. Employs fair and data driven argumentation.
  • Fluent in French, English and Portuguese languages will be advantageous. Can describe complex situation in clear words and express in a professional language
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Good knowledge of MS Excel and other MS office applications, as well as mail standard internet application.
